Mike McElyea

Funeral Director / Embalmer

Mike McElyea grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and at the age of 18 began in the funeral industry in 1990 with Parks Brothers Funeral Homes in Lincoln County, working alongside his grandmother and uncle.

On August 1, 1992, He moved to Dallas, Texas, where he began the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, graduating in 1993.

Following his education, He returned to Oklahoma and He finished his apprenticeship at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague and on February 8,1994, He received his license serving as a funeral Director and embalmer. In 1995 He moved to Shawnee and he began working at the Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel and Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma, serving as a funeral director and later as General Manager.

In 2004 He moved to Blackwell and he began working for Roberts Funeral Home in Blackwell, Oklahoma. In 2015, He moved to Norman and He began with Primrose Funeral Service as the location manager. In 2017 Mike began with Tribute Memorial Care in Norman and returning to their sister locations at Parks Brothers. In 2021 He returned to his hometown of Shawnee and He and close friend and business partner Robert Owens began McElyea and Owens Funeral Group.

In 2025, He left the funeral homes in Shawnee and He returned back to Blackwell to Roberts and Son Funeral Home. On April 15, 2026, He and the Pameticky family purchased the funeral home. Mike is a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Shawnee, attends Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee and Immanuel Baptist Church in Norman where he is involved in the sound ministry.

Mike has two children, Brandon, and Caitlyn.

Joey Culver

Funeral Director / Embalmer

Joey entered the funeral industry in 2004 with Poteet Funeral Home in Pawnee, Oklahoma, after serving as a youth minister with the First Baptist Church in Drumright, Oklahoma. He began working for Roberts and Son Funeral Home in 2010 as a funeral director and embalmer. He enjoys hunting, fishing and various outdoor activities. He is married to Carrie and they have two daughters, Paige and Chloe. We are happy to include him in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home family.

Gary Staples

Funeral Assistant

Gary in a native of Blackwell graduating from Blackwell High School. Roberts and Son Funeral Home was happy to add Gary to their staff in 2004 as a transfer driver and assistant with funeral services. Gary enjoys being around people and ministering to their various needs. Gary enjoys many outdoor activities and is a member of the Blackwell First Christian Church.

Jeff Koch

Funeral Assistant / Minister

Jeff Koch has worked for Roberts and Son as a Funeral Assistant since 2021, but we've known him much longer than that as the Senior Pastor of the First Christian Church in Blackwell. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Patty and they have two sons and their wives, along with 3 grandchildren, and 5 grand puppies.

He enjoys roasting his own coffee, reading, hiking and gardening.

Kristen Parker

Receptionist

Kristen Parker grew up in Colorado Springs, moving just before her high school graduation to Ponca City and graduating in 2011. She then went on to Northern Oklahoma College and graduated in 2013 with an Associate’s Degree in Office Management. Kristen married Shane Parker in 2014, and they have a daughter Kaylee who is 8 years old and attends Tonkawa Public Schools. Kristen’s maternal family has ties to Blackwell as well as to the funeral home business thru her Grandfather Terry Pameticky who also worked at Roberts & Son in the past years on weekends. Her mother, Terri is one of the new funeral home partners as well as her Uncle Tommy and his wife Tammy. Their relations in the Pameticky family used to own Pam Hardware for many years here in Blackwell. Kristen is currently assisting in day-to-day office operations and carrying on the funeral home for years to come as family owned and operated.

James Roberts

In Loving Memory

James William Roberts III was born on August 28, 1958 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to James William and Betty Jo (Conner) Roberts. He grew up in Blackwell until the age of 5 when the family moved to Purcell, Oklahoma. In 1970, they returned to Blackwell where he attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating in 1976. He furthered his education at Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater where he graduated and received his Bachelor's Degree in 1981.

Jimmy began his educational career working at Northern Oklahoma Junior College and then worked as a teacher/coach at Newkirk, Ralston, Schulter and Edmond Public Schools. He later received his Masters Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma.

He married Susan Willis on May 27, 1995 and they settled in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Jimmy and Susan both received their Bachelors in Mortuary Science from the University of Central Oklahoma and they joined the family business.

Jimmy was a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma where he taught Sunday School. Throughout his lifetime, he served on multiple boards and committees with various organizations. Most recently, he served on the Oklahoma Funeral Board, Christian School Board of Directors. He enjoyed playing golf and attending OSU athletic events. His greatest love was traveling with Susan and Vic to numerous destinations, attending family functions where he enjoyed a good laugh, and eating at really good restaurants. He truly enjoyed watching his son, Vic, play a variety of instruments, compose music and sing with such emotion and heart.
