Winifred D. Mayfield formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, in the Brighton Ridge Nursing Home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, at the age of 92 years.
Winifred D. Mayfield was born on October 15, 1917, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Charles Frank and Anna (Fisher) Beal. At the age of six years she moved with her family to Blackwell where she grew up attending Blackwell Public Schools. On March 23, 1935, she married Ivan Mayfield in Neosho, Missouri, and they settled in Blackwell. In 1944 they moved to Guymon, Oklahoma, before moving to Wichita, Kansas, in 1945. In 1951 she began working for the Coleman Company. She retired on May 1, 1982, following thirty-one years of service. Following her retirement they moved to Nardin, Oklahoma, to make their home and in 1988 moved to Blackwell. Her husband preceded her in death in January of 1997 and she continued to make Blackwell her home until 2001 when she moved to be near family in Holiday Island, Arkansas. She was a member Holiday Island Baptist Church and enjoyed the many church activities. She also held membership in the Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by four daughters, Belinda Stracke of Kansas City, Missouri, Ivona Darge and husband Allen of Holiday Island, Arkansas, Sally Fischer and husband Roger of Seneca, South Carolina, and Anna Rogers of Sachse, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Albert Mayfield; a sister, Helen Ashley; and two brothers, Leon and Vern Beal.
Graveside services are set for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1st in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma, with the Rev. James Colwell of Holiday Island Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers will be Bart Stracke, Bret Stracke, Todd Turner, Ty Turner, Clint Turner, Stephen Larkin, Lance Stracke and Karl Rogers.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the Holiday Island Baptist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
