Obituary

Shiney Bill Peterson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday evening, December 20, 2010, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 90 years.

Shiney Bill Peterson was born on July 13, 1920, in Geary, Oklahoma, to Wright and Clara (Deerking) Peterson. He grew up in Geary and following his mother's death he moved to Utah to live with his brother. He later returned to Geary and attended Geary High School where he played on the football team. Following his education he entered the United States Army on September 18, 1940 serving with the 100C Artillery Unit in Texas before transferring to the United States Navy in 1942 where he served during World War II. Upon his discharge he moved to Blackwell and began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company. He married Thelma Marie Jamieson in 1949 in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell where he continued working at the smelter until the plant closed. He then began a ten year career with the Sante Fe Railroad and retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Blackwell. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Sooners play football and reading western novels.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Peterson of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two daughters, Connie Grace and husband Gene of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Bonnie Kelly and husband Robert of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sons, Lloyd Peterson and wife Donna of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Charles Peterson and wife Althea of Blackwell, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his father; a brother, Chester Peterson; a sister, Virginia Goodale; and a grandson, Timothy Peterson.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 23rd, in the First Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Kevin Bookout officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Casketbearers will be Gene Grace, Robert Kelly, Colby Peterson, Keith Peterson, Kody Kelly and Darren Grace. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Bill Ames, Gary Bryant and Earl Robinson.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Blackwell Public Library in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
