Obituary

Wayne E. Shepherd of Blackwell went home to be with the Lord on October 6, 2014, at the age of 92 years.

Wayne E. Shepherd was born on September 30, 1922, in Blackwell to Roy I. and Oppie E. (Frazier) Shepherd. He grew up on the family farm west of Blackwell. He attended Cooper School through the eighth grade and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1940. In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps where he served with the 443rd Fighter Squadron of the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. Following an honorable discharge he returned to Blackwell in October of 1945. On January 6, 1946, he married Patricia Ingels in Blackwell and they had two children, Robbie L. and Danny W.

Wayne attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa for two years and received his associate degree in business. He worked as a carpenter and farmed until he began working in the personnel department for the Blackwell Zinc Company. In 1972, Wayne and his son Dan, started farming together. Wayne loved to be at the farm even after his retirement. Wayne and Pat lived on West Blackwell until February 2012, when they moved to Hillcrest Manor to make their home.

Wayne helped with Cub Scouts, coached Little League Baseball, was a Sunday School teacher and was actively involved in his children's activities as they were growing up. He was a member of the Blackwell American Legion and the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing bridge and fishing. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Shepherd of Blackwell; a daughter, Robbie Reagan and husband John of Edmond; a son, Dan Shepherd of Blackwell; four grandchildren, Denise Schroder and husband Troy, Andrea Cassady and husband Joe, Daniel Reagan and wife Heather, and Laura Laporte and husband Ricardo; and thirteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Shepherd; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy Shepherd.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9th in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Cap McIlnay officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
