Obituary

Wanda June True of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 76 years.

Wanda June True was born on June 2, 1935, in Manchester, Oklahoma, to George Albert and Viola Ann (Kendall) Cheney. She grew up attending Manchester Public Schools. Following her education she married Chester DeTar in Anthony, Kansas, in 1951 and they settled in Anthony before moving to Arkansas City where she served her family as a homemaker. In 1959 she moved to Enid, Oklahoma, to make her home. She married Lynn Edwin True on December 2, 1960, in Lamont, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell in 1962 where she continued as a homemaker. In 1966 she began working as a custodian for the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell and worked there until 1970 when she returned to care for her home. She was a member of the Blackwell Community Church and enjoyed crocheting, handcrafts and attending garage sales.

She is survived by her husband, Lynn True of Blackwell; two daughters, Rose Brown and husband Ron and Lora DeTar, all of Blackwell; two sisters, Elsie Maltby of Carmen, Oklahoma, and Tresa Kirkland of Monkey Island; a brother, LeRoy Cheney of Dacoma, Oklahoma; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lucille Walborn and Frances Gunning; a brother, Charles Cheney; and a great grandson, Gage Welch.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Jason Coffman, Rev. Dan Sharp and Cody Stenett officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Tonkawa.

Casketbearers will be Ron Brown, Doug Norton, C. J. Schrieber, C. J. Schrieber II, Cameron Welch and Danny Horton.

A memorial has been established in her honor with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
