Long time Blackwell resident Virginia Savage died Friday morning Oct. 24, 2008, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Virginia Savage was born on January 20, 1916, in Purdy, Missouri, to Ed and Mabel (Archibald) Ambrose. The family moved to Blackwell where she graduated from Blackwell High School in 1934. After graduation from high school she attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman where she graduated in 1938 with a bachelors degree in liberal arts. While attending Oklahoma University she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She married Neal Savage on January 29, 1938, and he preceded her in death in March of 1980. Mrs. Savage was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blackwell since 1926 where she served as an elder. She also held membership in the Blackwell Hospital Auxiliary, Monday Club and the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter AB where she was a fifty year member. She was an avid follower of sporting events, particularly Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State football and seldom missed watching tennis, golf and baseball on television. She enjoyed substitute teaching in the Blackwell Public Schools, but the love of her life was her family.
She is survived by her three children, Kathy Strong of Houston, Texas, Mark Savage of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Scott Savage of Claremore, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Ambrose and Helen McGee, both of Blackwell; and a brother, Dr. E. P. Ambrose of Radford, Virginia.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Eric Dittman of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Serving as casketbearers will be David Savage, Kirk Strong, Harold Wooderson, Max Wooderson and Bruce Wooderson.
A memorial has been established with the Parkinson's Association in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
