Obituary

Virginia Lee Davis of rural Nardin, Oklahoma, received her new body in Christ on Saturday, April 27, 2013. On Monday, April 29th, she would have been 95 years young.

Virginia Lee Davis was born on April 29, 1918, on a farm four miles west of Blackwell to Howard R. and Jessie F. (Rouse) Hicks. She attended Cooper Grade School and Blackwell High School graduating in 1936.
While in high school, she married Charles Dudley Davis on September 7, 1935, in Medford, Oklahoma. Together they farmed and operated a custom harvest crew for many years. They were a positive influence on many young men while combining from Texas to North Dakota. In 1975 they began spending the winters fishing at Port Aransas, Texas, and following the death of her husband, she continued to drive herself to South Texas until the age of 89. Virginia hosted her entire family in Red River, New Mexico, for nineteen years. Virginia treated everyone as family, preparing food for them, including her famous cinnamon rolls, pies and especially her fried chicken. She enjoyed quilting and fashioning tea towels which were auctioned each year at the Nardin Methodist Thanksgiving Bazaar. She served as superintendent of the Arts and Science Building for the Kay County Free Fair and except for two years, attended every fair since it's inception. She spent her last few days with her family near her and enjoyed everyone bringing their Sunday dinners to her home.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbra Dunaway and husband Don of Nardin and Jane Webb and husband Chuck of Blackwell; a son, Joe Davis of Nardin; eight grandchildren, Peggy Frieouf, Charles Dunaway, Will Dunaway, Toby Webb, Doby Webb, Davis Webb, Travis Davis and Sally Massey; twelve great grandchildren, Megan Dunaway, Mark Frieouf, Jeff Frieouf, Jennifer Shepard, Jarett Webb, Kadi Webb, Tucker Webb, Cody Webb, Kirsti Webb, Patience Massey, Clay Massey and Tristan Massey; and two great great grandchildren, Bly and Reed Frieouf.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Stanley Hicks; and two sisters, Pauline Fuller and Eleanor Anderson.

Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 1st in the First United Methodist Church in Nardin with the Rev. Don Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin.
