Virginia Jean Brewer of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away on March 31, 2024, at her home at the age of 95 years.

Virginia Jean Brewer was born on January 27, 1929, in Wichita, Kansas, to Glen and Mildred (Dillingham) Eckart. She grew up attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School. While in high school she worked at the Rivoli Theater where she met her future husband. She married D. C. Brewer in 1947 and she served her family as a homemaker. Following their marriage, they lived wherever his military orders took them. Home also included Japan and Venezuela which she enjoyed very much. Following his discharge, they returned to Blackwell and she attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa where she received a degree in social services. She then began working in social services at the Blackwell Regional Hospital for many years. Following retirement, they moved to Grand Lake and she enjoyed gardening, quilting, painting, reading, lake life and her family, especially her grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death in 2007 and she returned to Blackwell to her home.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Smith of Jay; two sisters, Carol Mullins and Glenda Leslie of Blackwell; twelve grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and a few great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two daughters, Donna McMartin and Karen Gonzales.

A memorial service will be planned later in the summer.
