Viola Elizabeth Tremble formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Sunday morning, January 15, 2012, in The Gardens in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, at the age of 99 years.
Viola Elizabeth Tremble was born on January 22, 1912, in Altoona, Kansas, to August F. and Letha L. (Morrison) Huhn. As a young girl she moved with her family to Sand Springs, Oklahoma, where she attended elementary school. At the age of ten they moved to Blackwell where she attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating in 1930. She furthered her education by attending University Preparatory School in Tonkawa and Central State Teacher's College in Edmond where she received her teaching certification. Following graduation she returned to Kay County and taught school before marrying Wayne O. Tremble on January 5, 1935, in Newkirk. They settled in Blackwell until 1944 when they moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she served her family as a homemaker and substitute taught in the area. In 1951 they moved to Chanute, Kansas, for six months before returning to Blackwell. She then began working for the Sears Catalog Store as the assistant manager and retired after ten years. She then managed the Kitty Huston Apartments in Blackwell for two years and also assisted her husband in his ministry at the First Christian Church in Braman. Her husband preceded her in death on May 5, 1996, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. In 2009 she moved to Tulsa to be near her family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell and taught Sunday School for many years as well as serving as an officer with the Christian Women's Fellowship. Other memberships include the Top of Oklahoma Historical Society and Literacy Council. She worked as a volunteer for the Meals of Wheels and the Blackwell Regional Hospital. She enjoyed being with family and traveling to Israel and the Holy Land.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Tremble and wife Bonnie of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Frank Tremble and wife Judy of Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Bea Kelle of Ponca City, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Luann Wheeler; two sisters, Kathryn Cassidy and Joann Huhn; and two brothers, Lawrence and Clarence Huhn.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Mike Tremble, Rick Tremble, Al Wheeler Jr., David Anderson, Todd Limbocker, Dr. Danny Cassidy, Gene Henderson and Don Kelle. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Larry and Shari Cannon and Frank and Joy Dyer.
