Vernon Leroy Osborn of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 77 years.
Vernon Leroy Osborn was born on October 8, 1934, in Salt Fork, Oklahoma, to Jess William and Gladys Faye (Osburn) Osborn. He attended Lamont Public Schools graduating in 1952. Following his education he entered the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He married Vivian Jane Baker in Fairview, Oklahoma, and they settled in Topeka, Kansas, where he was stationed. He later served in England, Louisiana, Japan and Colorado. After twenty years of service he retired and moved to Sulphur, Oklahoma, where he worked in the maintenance department at the Veterans Hospital. He retired after twenty years at the facility and moved to Lamont, Oklahoma, for a year before moving to Blackwell in 1999 to make his home. He married Patsy Jean Smith on December 23, 2004, and they continued to make Blackwell their home. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamont. He enjoyed yardwork, photography, camping and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Osborn of Blackwell; his mother, Gladys Faye Osborn of Lamont; three daughters, Donna Osborn of Sulphur, Diane Osborn of Missouri City, Texas, and Darlene Norman of Sulphur; a son, Duane Osborn of Sulphur; a step-daughter, Tamara Harter of Blackwell; two step-sons, John Hillhouse of Ponca City and Jason Hillhouse of Perry; a sister, Rosella Newman of Mustang, Oklahoma; a brother, Ivan Osborn of Lamont; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and one step-great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father; a daughter, Debra Osborn; a brother, Harold Osborn; a granddaughter, Jazlynn Osborn; and a step-granddaughter, Alysha Harter.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 27th in the First Christian Church in Lamont with the Rev. Jeff McReynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Salt Fork, Oklahoma.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for cancer research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
