Obituary

Verna Hemple of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years.

Verna Ruth Hemple was born on April 28, 1922, in Canton, Oklahoma, to Morris and Ruth (Williams) Worthington. She grew up in Canton attending Royal High School in Canton graduating in 1940. Following her education she married Art Hemple on May 4, 1941, in Enid, Oklahoma, and they settled in Enid. In 1942 they moved to Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer for twenty-five years and the Kay County Election Board for several years. Following her husband's retirement in 1974 they enjoyed spending the winters in Texas and the summers in Colorado. They were charter members of the Romin' Okies Camping Club where she served as treasurer. They also held membership in the Top of Oklahoma Historical Society. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. Her husband preceded her in death on November 15, 1999, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She enjoyed canning, china painting and gardening.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Hemple and wife Connie of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a brother, Judge Donald L. Worthington and wife June of Stillwater, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jodie Maner and husband Tim of Enid, Oklahoma, Alan Russell Dean Jr. and wife Sherie of Edmond, Oklahoma, Aric Randall Dean and wife Michelle of Bend, Oregon, and Adam Robert Dean and wife Sammie of Stephenville, Texas; and six great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Smith; a brother, Eugene Worthington; and an infant great grandson.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 13th in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Michael Moers officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Rob Dean, Randy Dean, Rusty Dean, Tim Maner, Sandy Marble and Marty Smith. Honorary casketbearers will be Bob Noblett, Robert Shierling and Morgan Bergman.

A memorial has been established at the First Baptist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
