Verda Lorraine Taylor of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Via Christi Village in Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 years.
Verda Lorraine Taylor was born March 13, 1922, in Portland, Kansas, to William "Bill" and Olga (Welsch) Wolf. She grew up in Portland attending Portland Grade School and then attended the South Haven High School in South Haven, Kansas, graduating in 1940. On September 22, 1940, she married Walter Orlin Taylor and they made their home on a farm west of Braman and later on a farm north of Braman where she assisted with the farming operation. On October 8, 1971, her husband preceded her in death and she moved to Blackwell. In 1974 she furthered her education at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa receiving her R.N. Degree and worked for a short time at the Arkansas City Hospital in Arkansas City, Kansas. She then started helping her daughter and son-in-law on their farm near Braman. She was a member of the Braman First Christian Church and later moved her membership to the Blackwell First Christian Church. She also attended the Blackwell Community Church on occasion. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and caring for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Orla Ann Turvey and husband Don of Braman, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Leigh Ann Schultz and husband Christian of Alexandria, Virginia, and Kristine Baranski and husband Steven of Edmond, Oklahoma; five great grandchildren, Emily and Sam Baranski, Megan and Alex Ihrig, and Phoebe Schultz; one brother, Everette Wolf of Ada, Oklahoma; three sisters, Nadine Rinehart and husband Harold of Caldwell, Kansas, Betty Bates and husband Roy of Wellington, Kansas, and Earlene Strickland of South Haven, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Otto Adam Wolf; a sister, Ottis King; and two brothers, William "Willie" Wolf Jr. and Herman Wolf.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at the Braman Cemetery with Chaplain Mike Sweetman of Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in Ponca City, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Don Turvey, Christian Schultz, Leigh Ann Schultz, Steven Baranski, Kristine Baranski and Howard Strickland.
