Veda Maxine Holcomb of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday morning, August 3, 2011, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 84 years.

Veda Maxine Holcomb was born on February 20, 1927, in Nardin, Oklahoma, to Edward and Minnie Melinda (Easterly) Lively. She attended Clair Rural School before completing her education at Deer Creek High School graduating in 1945. She married Gene Holcomb on November 17, 1946, in Arkansas City, Kansas, and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker and helped her husband with the family grocery store. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell and served on many church committees. Along with her husband they began the Harmony Sunday School Class. She invited many people to attend by sending cards and her efforts were responsible for the growth of the class.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Holcomb of Blackwell; two daughters, Diana Angle and husband Lawrence and Rhonda Boesch and husband Ronnie all of Blackwell; a sister, Vera Patterson of Arkansas City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Scott Boesch, Amy and Brody McDougal, Gina and Bill Whitaker, and Eric and Heather Angle; and seven great grandchildren, Brayden, Mady and Beykmm Angle, Brice and Brenner McDougal, and Jimmy and Carson Whitaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 5th in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Pam Cottrill of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Serving as honorary casketbearers will be the Harmony Sunday School Class.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the First United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
