Tommy Gene Sims of Blackwell, Oklahoma passed away on the evening of January 1, 2016 at
AllianceHealth Blackwell at the age of 73 years.
Tommy Gene Sims was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on July 5, 1942 to Ernest Earl and Pansy Ann (Avery) Sims. After graduating from Blackwell High School in 1961, where he was very active in the music program, Tom went on to earn his teaching degree from Central State University in 1967, before teaching for several years in the Oklahoma City Public School District. He returned to Blackwell in 1980, where he became the Music Minister, and later the Director of the Choir and Bell Choir at Blackwell United Methodist Church.
Tom was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed playing cards, swimming, going to movies, as well as listening to, and playing music.
He is survived by a niece, Laura Pergande and husband Paul of Austin, Texas; as well as a nephew, Al Webb of Ozark, Missouri. Tom is also survived by several other nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Oneta Hunt Webb.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday January, 4th at the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Cap McIlnay officiating.
Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Paul Pergande, Phillip Pergande, Alvin Webb, Mickey Avery, Richard Avery, and Terry McDonell.
A memorial has been established in his name with the First United Methodist Church
