Sue Ellen Gingerich of Braman, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, March 11, 2011, in the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 78 years.
Sue Ellen Gingerich was born on March 11, 1933, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Coy Andrew and Helen Louise (Richardson) Maudlin. She grew up in Ponca City attending Garfield Elementary School and Ponca City High School graduating in 1951. While in high school she married Marvin Gingerich on December 26, 1950, in Ponca City. Following her graduation, they moved to Ft. Warren, Wyoming, where her husband was stationed in the United States Air Force. When he was transferred to Germany, she returned to Ponca City to make her home. During his tour in Germany she attended nursing classes working toward a registered nurse certification. Following his return to the states, they moved to Glendale, Arizona, where he was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. In 1955 they returned to Kay County as settled in Blackwell before moving to a farm near Braman, Oklahoma, in 1956. She served her family as a homemaker and assisted with the family farming operation throughout her life. Marvin and Sue entertained many family members during the summer as they came to visit and help with the farm. They enjoyed attending their children's and grandchildren's various activities. She was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ and the Extension Homemakers Group. She loved sewing, crocheting and quilting and had just recently completed her 90th stocking cap for newborns. They also enjoyed traveling the United States and taking their grandchildren to the lake.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Marvin Gingerich of Braman, Oklahoma; her daughter, Diane Ray and husband Keith of Braman, Oklahoma; her son, Darrell Gingerich and wife Robin of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two brothers, Don Maudlin of Braman, Oklahoma, and Gene Maudlin and wife Karla of Lawton, Oklahoma; a grandson, Russell Ray of Braman, Oklahoma; three granddaughters, Brittany Ray of Braman, Oklahoma, Tami Vaughan and husband Brent of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Vanessa Martin and husband Jaman of Mustang, Oklahoma; and two step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Wayne Maudlin.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 14th in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe of the Blackwell Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Russell Ray, Jeff Overton, Don Hardin, Mike Quirey, Jaman Martin and Jerry Friouef. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Arlen Byers, Frank Randol, Bob Fletcher and Martin McGinty.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the Blackwell Church of Christ and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for heart research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
