Obituary

Steve O’Neil, age 82, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at home in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was born on May 28, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Bernice Seidle and Felix O’Neil.

Steve graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1966 with a degree in Radio and Television Advertising. While attending OSU, he worked in sports broadcasting for Oklahoma State football and basketball. Following graduation, he spent six years in radio sales in San Antonio and eight years as Vice President of Pitluk Advertising Agency before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In Tulsa, Steve founded, owned, and managed O’Neil & Associates, which later merged with Brothers & Company. He retired in 2008, and he and Judy moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to enjoy their retirement years. They enjoyed golf, traveling, and many happy times with their grandchildren. They hosted Cousins Camp, took golf cart rides, swam in the country club pool, and enjoyed ice cream treats together.

Steve earned numerous professional honors, including Outstanding Ad Agency Account Executive in 1985 and 1986 through the Media Achievement Awards presented by the AWRT Tulsa Chapter. O’Neil & Associates was recognized as Agency of the Year in 1987 in the same competition.

During retirement, Steve served on the boards of the Stillwater Medical Foundation and United Way of Stillwater. But his greatest goal was to be “Husband of the Year” and “Father of the Year.” He achieved both.

His faith in Yahweh and his confidence in the Word of God were his mainstay for the direction of his life, both in personal matters and in business. He would lead and teach his family that God’s Word was connected from Genesis to Revelation. It was his passion to study God’s Word and share about his Savior, Jesus the Christ.

Steve is survived by his wife, Judy, whom he married in 1968. They enjoyed 58 years together. Other survivors include his sister, Jan Weston; his daughters and sons-in-law, Maris and Brian Russell of Perkins, Oklahoma, and Megan and Brian McKinney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Braden Russell; Blaine and Janae Russell; Seth and Ingrid Russell; Sadie Russell; Adelyn Russell; John Russell; Stephen Russell; Gracie and Cooper McCombs; Ellie McKinney; Kate McKinney; Clay McKinney; and Caroline McKinney; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Seidle and Felix O’Neil.

Steve was laid to rest on June 17, 2026, in the family cemetery located on the Russell family property. It was a special time for his family to honor him.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Guthrie Presbyterian Church, 102 E. Noble Avenue, Guthrie, Oklahoma. A reception will follow.

Steve will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his devotion to his family, his professional excellence, and the kindness and generosity he shared with everyone he met.
