Stephen Edward Jackson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday afternoon, December 2, 2008, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 65 years.
Stephen Edward Jackson was born on February 21, 1943, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, to Stephen Randolph and Norma Jean (Peak) Jackson. As a young boy he moved with his family to Blackwell where he attended Blackwell Public Schools. Following his education he married Rita Gail Dodd on October 9, 1961, in Vega, Texas, and they settled in Roosevelt, Oklahoma, where he worked in the granite quarry and a service station. They moved to Blackwell in 1962 and he began working in the construction business throughout Kay County until his retirement in 1978. His wife preceded him in death on September 13, 2007, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, woodworking and working on cars.
He is survived by three sons, Wayne Jackson and wife Lisa of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Jeff Jackson and wife Jaquetta of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Mike Jackson and wife Mistie of Blackwell, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Rachel Brown and husband Tim of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Stephanie Wood and husband Rocky of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Ashley Newman and husband Randy of Wichita, Kansas, Jeffrey Jackson and wife Laura of Braman, Oklahoma, Jessica Jackson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Jacob Jackson of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and great grandchildren, Triniti Brown of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Jaxon Brown of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Payton Wood of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Emarie Newman of Wichita, Kansas, and Matthew Jackson of Braman, Oklahoma.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Buddy, Clifford and Lonnie Joe Beard.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 5th in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Bookout of the First Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers will be Tim and Rachel Brown, Rocky and Stephanie Wood, Randy and Ashley Newman, Jeff and Laura Jackson, Jessica Jackson, Jacob Jackson, Triniti Brown, Jaxon Brown, Payton Wood, Emarie Newman and Matthew Jackson.
A memorial has been established with the First Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
