Shirley Ann Sullins formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday evening, January 27, 2009, at her home in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 73 years.
Shirley Ann Sullins was born on January 12, 1936, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Roy M. and Hazel Lucille (Owens) Sele. She grew up on a farm east of Blackwell where she attended Weston School for eight years before attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating in 1954. Following her education she began working for the Safeway Grocery Store until 1956. She then began working for Fey's IGA until 1958. She married Alvin Ray Sullins in February of 1958 and they settled in Blackwell for a short time before moving to New York and later McAllen, Texas. In 1964 she returned to live on the farm east of Blackwell. She attended Josie Beauty School and upon completion of her training began working for the Studio Beauty Shop. She also worked on the farm helping her parents. In 1967 she began working certified medical assistant for Blackwell Nursing Home and worked there until the 1990's. She later moved to Enid, Oklahoma, to make her home and be near family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell and later Davis Park Christian Church in Enid. She enjoyed animals, especially horses and miniature pinschers.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna G. Good of Enid, Oklahoma; her son, David W. Sullins of Mount Prospect, Illinois; a granddaughter, Tanya D. Barnes of Lackland Air Force Base; and a great granddaughter, Jadyn Barnes of Lackland Air Force Base.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter, Brandy M. Clapp.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31st in the Davis Park Christian Church in Enid with the Rev. Mike Marsalis of Oklahoma City officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, Oklahoma, under the direction of Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
Serving as casketbearers will be Bruce Bailey, Carson Stoles, Cody Lewis, Jason Vincent, Scott Gore and Richard Beckett. Jim Coup will serve as an honorary casketbearer.
Memorials have been established with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation – Cancer Research and Internet Miniature Pinscher Service in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
