Obituary

Shirley Ann Smithson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Sunday morning, May 4, 2008, in the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 63 years.

Shirley Ann Smithson was born on March 28, 1945, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Earl and Mae (House) Shook. She grew up and attended school in Nettleton, Arkansas, before moving with her family to Lamont, Oklahoma, where she completed her education. She married Charles Edward Smithson on December 11, 1976, in Arkansas City, Kansas, and they settled in Blackwell where she worked at nursing homes in Blackwell, Tonkawa and Ponca City. They later moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she worked at the Enid State School before moving to Ponca City. They then returned to Blackwell to make their home and she served her family as a homemaker. She attended the Baptist Church and the Assembly of God Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, listening to music, taking walks in the neighborhood, cats and her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Smithson of Blackwell; her parents, Earl and Mae Shook of Blackwell; two daughters, Charlene Wood and Martha Allen of Blackwell; a son, Edward Smithson of Blackwell; a sister, Doris Newland of Blackwell; two brothers, Clifford Shook of Fairfax, Oklahoma, and Rodney Shook of El Reno, Oklahoma; and eleven grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8th, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Newland of the First Assembly of God Church in Waurika, Oklahoma, officiating.
