Obituary

Shirley Dean Koehler of Newkirk, Oklahoma, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, in the O.U. Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 68 years.

Shirley Dean Koehler was born on February 4, 1942, in Caldwell, Kansas, to Dean Austin and Lena Vinita (Palmer) Partee. She grew up attending elementary school in northeast Grant County before attending Caldwell Public Schools. She graduated from Braman High School in 1959. She furthered her education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where she received an associate's degree in 1961. While in college she participated with the Mavette Drill Team and marched in the inaugural parade for President Kennedy. She married Gerald DeWitt on December 16, 1961, and they settled in Grant County and she continued working for Sooner Life Insurance Company in Ponca City. She later worked for the First National Bank in Braman before returning to the home where she helped with the farming operation and served her family as a homemaker. She married Ronald W. Koehler on September 14, 1984, in Arkansas City, Kansas, and they settled in Ponca City before moving to Newkirk. She worked as a shipping clerk for Albertson's in Ponca City until her retirement in 2008. She was a member of the Braman United Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping, wildlife and nature.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Koehler of Newkirk, Oklahoma; her mother, Lena Partee of Braman, Oklahoma; her daughter, Sheryl Street and husband Darrell of Kaw City, Oklahoma; her son, Steve DeWitt and wife Janie of Braman, Oklahoma; two brothers, Rusty Partee and wife Judy of Braman, Oklahoma, and Terry Partee of New Church, Virginia; and four grandchildren, Dane, Drew and Dylan DeWitt of Braman, Oklahoma, and Kayla Street of Kaw City, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 22nd in the Braman United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. M. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Caldwell Cemetery in Caldwell, Kansas.

Casketbearers will be Dane DeWitt, John Partee, Christopher Partee, Elvin Worley, James Kincaid and Gerald DeWitt.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Braman United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
