Obituary

Sarah J. Looper of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday evening, August 1, 2010, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 83 years.

Sarah J. Looper was born on August 3, 1926, in Dilworth, Oklahoma, to William Ray and Effie Calista (Brown) Anderson. As a young girl she moved with her family to Withers, Oklahoma, and attended Wheelock Academy in Millerton, Oklahoma, before attending Chilocco Indian School in northern Kay County. Following her education she moved to Blackwell where she began working for the Hazel-Atlas Glass Plant. She married Thomas Paul Looper in Abilene, Texas, where he was stationed in the military. While he served overseas, she lived in Eddy, Oklahoma, with his parents. Following his discharge they settled in Eddy for a short time before moving to Blackwell to make their home. She worked for several years for the Blackwell Laundry and Cleaners. Her husband preceded her in death on April 16, 1988. She later married Hewitt West on February 12, 1994, and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell.

She is survived by six sons, Thomas Ray Looper of Turpin, Oklahoma, Richard Leon Looper of Blackwell, Oklahoma, David Leroy Looper of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Phillip D. Looper of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Anthony Paul Looper of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Terry Glade Looper of Blackwell, Oklahoma; twenty-five grandchildren; and thirty-six great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Toby Looper.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cliff Johnson of The Tabernacle Church officiating.
Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Rick Looper, Thomas Looper Jr., David Looper Jr., Terrance Looper, Russell Looper and Stephen Looper. The grandchildren of Sarah Looper will serve as honorary casketbearers.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer's Research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
