Ruth Dean May, formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday evening, February 8, 2013, in the Parkwood Healthcare Center, Bedford, Texas, at the age of 89 years.
Ruth Dean May was born on March 1, 1923, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, to Clarence and Lela May. She attended Star Elementary School near Blackwell before attending Braman High School and graduating from Blackwell High School. She worked for a bank in Oklahoma City before moving to Dawn, Texas, continuing to work in banking in Amarillo, Texas. She returned to Blackwell in 1948 where she lived on Carson Street. She was employed by the Blackwell Zinc Smelter until its closing, working in the payroll department. She then worked as a bookkeeper for the Plainsman Restaurant/Service Center and Jackson Jewelry before retiring. She attended the First Baptist Church almost all her life where she taught Sunday School for many years. She moved to Bedford, Texas (Fort Worth suburb), in 2010 to be near her family.
She is survived by two nieces, Debbie Talbert and Donna Walker; and four nephews, Brent May, Keith May, Scott May and Gary May.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Russell May and wife Erma, and Donald May.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 15th at the First Baptist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with James Roberts, Blackwell, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Scott May and Brent May.
