Obituary

Surrounded by her loving family, Ruby Hadley, 85, passed away August 29, 2009, at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on March 10, 1924, the second eldest of eight children, in Ft. Meade, Florida, to Chester and Maggie Rowell. She attended Ft. Meade schools, graduating as valedictorian from Fort Meade High School in December of 1941. She then attended Walsh Business College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She met LeRoy C. Hadley in Ft. Lauderdale when he was serving in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. They married on October 7, 1945, in Lakeland, Florida. Following the war, the couple moved to Blackwell, where they have resided ever since. Ruby worked in the insurance business for over twenty-five years, first for Mr. Bill Wiles, then for Weigle's Agency. She then worked for Acme Foundry from 1976 to 1986. Ruby served on the boards for the Camp Fire Girls, Kittie Huston Apartments, First United Methodist Church, and Associated Charities. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Ruby was preceded in death by LeRoy, her loving husband of sixty-three years; her parents, Chester and Maggie Rowell; a brother, Jake Rowell; and two sisters, Bettye Ouzts and Evelyn First.

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Brown and husband Charlie of Wichita, Kansas, and Barbie Hamlin and husband Tom of Derby, Kansas; four sisters, Opal Emington and husband Joe of Louisville, Kentucky, Violet Sheffield of Ft. Meade, Florida, Sandra Manley of Bartow, Florida, and Joan Stanford and husband Orland of Bay Springs, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Kimberly Robinson and husband Danny of Montgomery, Alabama, Natalie Jayne and husband Nick of Derby, Kansas, Clarke Hamlin and fiancé Lisa Mays of Wichita, Kansas, and Lauren Brown of Wichita, Kansas; and two great grandchildren, Kyle Robinson of Montgomery, Alabama, and Hayley Nicole Jayne of Derby, Kansas.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 2nd in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Kristen L. Brown officiating. Eulogists will be Tom Hamlin and Charlie Brown. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Clarke Hamlin, Fred Williamson, Nick Jayne, Floyd Hildebrand and Steve Fry. Honorary casketbearers will be Gary Hulse, Dan McClung, Dr. Bob Morgan, Jim Dacus, Robert Williamson, Frank Dyer, Bob Raffety and Clarence Staples.
