Obituary

Roy Leon Davis of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 enroute to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.


Roy was born May 6, 1946, in Blackwell to Jake C. and Mildred Florence (Carter) Davis. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School K-8, transferred to Blackwell Public School System, graduating from BHS in 1964. He attended two years at Northern Oklahoma Jr. College. He married his high school sweetheart, Jackie Cooper, on December 17, 1966. Their union was blessed was blessed with one daughter, Mistie Ann. He joined the U. S. Army on January 19, 1967, serving one tour of duty in Korea. Upon discharge from military service in February of 1970, he returned to Blackwell and began employment with Blackwell Zinc Company. He was later employed by the City of Blackwell and Kay Electric Cooperative. He was employed at Malco in Ponca City at the time of his death. Roy was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spent many hours around the campfire entertaining his family and friends with his colorful stories. Roy was a great fan of country music, and frequently played with his buddies in the local Jam Band. He had a great respect for nature and a love for animals, especially dogs. He was never without one in his life.


He is survived by his daughter Mistie Ann Davis and husband, Marc Frappier of Austin, Texas; sister Benita Vap of Edmond, Oklahoma; brothers Steve Davis of South Haven, Kansas and Joe Davis and wife, Janet of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; nieces Leigh Ann (Vap) Gilles of Oklahoma City, Rhiannon (Davis) Hazen of Protection, Kansas, and Mindy Davis of Perry, Oklahoma; and a nephew Garin Davis of Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his long-time companion, Darlene McKee of Ponca City, and his beloved dog, Babs.


He was preceded in death by his parents and another beloved pet, Chadda.


The memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 30 at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell, with James W. Roberts officiating.


Honorary casket bearers will be life-long friends Rod Cowell, Al (Butch) Sanger, Danny Harris, Tommy Day, Danny Amos, Dale Fleming, Kelly Smith and Terry Ricketts.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Ponca City Humane Society or the Blackwell High School Wrestling Program.
