Roger Howard Sentel of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, died Monday, December 31, 2012, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 70 years.
Roger Howard Sentel was born on January 24, 1942, in Winfield, Kansas, to Gilbert Lee and Nina Elizabeth (Manahan) Sentel. He grew up in Dexter, Kansas, where he attended Dexter Elementary School. At the age of eight he moved with his family to Arkansas City, Kansas, where he attended Arkansas City Public Schools graduating in 1960 from Arkansas City High School. Following his education he began working for Shanks Grocery in Arkansas City. On July 26, 1963, he married Mary Anna Dyke in Arkansas City and they settled there. In 1970 they moved to Wray, Colorado, where he began working for Safeway as a produce manager and in 1976 they transferred to the Safeway Store in Ponca City, Oklahoma. They later moved to Osage City, Kansas, where he began working for Giesy Incorporated as a produce manager until his retirement in the early 1990s. Following his retirement they moved to Tonkawa, Oklahoma, to make their home. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell. He loved spending time with his family and playing practical jokes on people. He also enjoyed watching pro football, college basketball, woodworking, gardening, traveling, fishing, listening to music, and training and breaking horses.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Anna Sentel of Tonkawa; two sons, Lonnie Sentel and wife Jennifer of Ponca City, and Clinton Sentel and wife Tammi of Ponca City; a daughter, Vicki Thompson of Collinsville, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald L. Sentel and wife Shirley of Yakima, Washington, and Richard E. Sentel and wife Glenda of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his stepfather, Wayne A. Smith of Winfield, Kansas; two half brothers, Greg Sentel and wife Rae of Omaha, Nebraska, and Alan Sentel and wife Cindy of Denver, Colorado; and a half sister, Connie Sentel of Denver, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5th in the Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Matt Smith officiating.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
