Roger Lee Richardson, long time resident of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday evening, December 1, 2010, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 79 years.
Roger Lee Richardson was born on June 16, 1931, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. After graduating from the Ponca City Military Academy, he joined the United States Army on July 16, 1949, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. Roger married Marcille Lenora DeMoss of Ponca City on July 12, 1950. Following his discharge in October of 1952 the couple settled in Blackwell. During his retirement years, Roger enjoyed traveling to Southern Texas in his RV and spending time with friends. Before his wife preceded him in death in 1976, the couple traveled throughout the southern and western United States purchasing and selling antiques of all kinds. They also enjoyed restoring antique furniture and their home was mostly furnished with these beautiful pieces. Roger had accepted the Lord as his Savior just a few months prior to his death.
He is survived by two sons, Robin Lee Richardson and wife Debbie of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Michael Scott Richardson of Blackwell, Oklahoma. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandchildren by daughter Diania and husband Tom Klassen include, Kasi Lauderdale and Jacob Klassen; and great grandchildren, Taryn Lauderdale and Gabrielle Klassen. Grandchildren by son Robin Richardson and wife Debbie are Amber Goering and Heather Houk; and great grandchildren, Abigail and Micah Goering and Hannah, Ethan, Emma and Emily Houk. He is also survived by his beloved dog for the past fourteen years, Sam (Samantha).
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Diania Sue Klassen.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2010, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. John Waterloo of Central Baptist Church in Ponca City officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the United States Army of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Central Baptist Church Missions Fund in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
