Obituary

Robert Harry "Bob" Squires of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 90 years.

Robert Harry "Bob" Squires was born on December 14, 1918 in Deer Creek, Oklahoma, to Clyde and Adella (Snoffer) Squires. He grew up in Deer Creek attending rural schools before graduating from Deer Creek High School in 1937. He then furthered his education by attending University Preparatory School in Tonkawa. He entered the United States Army on July 10, 1941, and served in the European Theatre and South Pacific during World War II. He married Dee Marie Martin on August 9, 1941, in Leesville, Louisiana, where he was stationed. Following his discharge on December 19, 1945, they returned to Deer Creek where he began his farming and dairy operation. He also worked at the Blackwell Zinc Company, the Acme Foundry in Blackwell and worked as a pumper in the oilfields for many years. He retired from full-time farming in 2007 and moved into Blackwell to make his home following his retirement. His wife preceded him in death on April 19, 2005. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell. He enjoyed watching sporting events, especially Oklahoma football and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by two daughters, Jane Wilson of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Dee Ann Muster of Calhoun, Kentucky; a brother, Ronald Squires of Yorba Linda, California; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Oliver and Archie Squires.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22nd in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tuney Ropp of McLoud, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bayard Cemetery in Deer Creek, Oklahoma.

Casketbearers will be Martin Wilson, Randy Shipley, Rusty Shipley, Tom Tolle, Bobby Squires and Cody White.
