Robert “Bob” Dennis Mitchell was born on February 22, 1959, to Robert Francis and Sandra Lea (Lemley) Mitchell, and entered heaven’s gates on October 1, 2026.

Bob attended Moravia Community School in Moravia, Iowa, for all but two years, and graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1977. He was the FFA President and enjoyed playing the trumpet in band.

Bob was baptized at age 11 and was a member of the Brushy Community Church in Plano, Iowa.

On January 15, 1977, Bob married Peggy Pettibone at the Methodist Church in Moravia, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Jennifer Sue, Stephanie Jo, and Robert Brit. Bob and Peggy were married just short of 50 years, but together for 52. To celebrate, they took their dream vacation in August and spent two weeks in Alaska.

Bob loved his family, as well as being outdoors. He never could be cooped up inside. He loved agriculture — planting things and watching them grow, as well as cattle and horses. He had a love of classic cars, hot rods, and flying. He completed his Private Pilot’s License, and would make base in both Medford and Blackwell.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mitchell; a brother, Bradley Mitchell; his grandparents: Lynn and Opal Lemley, and Frank and Lelah Mitchell; in-laws, Jerry and Joan Pettibone.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters: Jennifer Mitchell and Stephanie Hanson; son, Robert Brit Mitchell; grandchildren: Kyler and Kenzie Hanson, Addie and Ian Van Gilder, Gabby Riley-Mitchell, Piper-Dee Mitchell, and DeMona Mitchell; and great-grandson, Calyn Griffin; his mother, Sandra Mitchell; sisters: Brenda Hoffman, Chanda Hornaday, and Anissa Willner; brother, Brian Mitchell; brothers-in-law: David Pettibone and Tim Pettibone; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Community Health Center Food Pantry in Wakita, Oklahoma. Bob believed no one should be hungry. Alternatively, feel free to give to the memorial of your choice.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 9, 2026, in the Roberts Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Katina Roberts officiating. A Graveside Service will be held the Concord Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa, at 1:30 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2026, with Rev. Jim Altimaier officiating.

Honorary Casketbearers include Addie Van Gilder, Gabby Riley-Mitchell, Kenzie Hanson, Piper-Dee Mitchell, DeMona Mitchell, David Pettibone, Tim Pettibone, and Stan Glenny.
