Robert Eugene "Bob" Johns of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday morning, June 14, 2010, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 70 years.
Robert Eugene "Bob" Johns was born on June 30, 1939, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to John J. and M. Lorenine. (Duvalt) Johns. As a young boy he moved with his family to Blackwell where he grew up and attended Blackwell Public Schools. Following his education he began working for the Acme Foundry in Blackwell and Tonkawa Foundry in Tonkawa. He married Nancy J. Laughlin on September 26, 1955, in Winfield, Kansas, and they settled in Blackwell. He later began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company and worked there until the plant closed in 1974. He then began working as a welder for the Lee Jones Welding Service in Tonkawa before becoming a truck driver for Southwest Cupid until his retirement in the late 1980's. He served as a cub scout leader for several years and enjoyed fishing and family.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. Johns of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a daughter, Roberta Smith and husband Eric of Rainier, Washington; five sons, Loren Johns and wife Mary of Peckham, Oklahoma, M. Clay Johns and wife Rebecca of Blackwell, Oklahoma, M. Jay Johns of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Jeff Johns and wife Connie of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and "adopted son" Mike Mauntel and wife Julie of Dewey, Oklahoma; a sister, Sandy Clark and husband Russell of Joplin, Missouri; two brothers, Raymond Johns and wife Fay of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Melvin Johns and wife Ellen of Blackwell, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael E. Johns; a daughter, Della Ann Johns; and three grandchildren, Justin Johns, Eric Johns and Michael J. Johns.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 17th in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Andy Teston of Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Joshua Johns, Steve Spears, Adam Johns and David Johns. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Damian Johns and Chris Carnall.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the First Baptist Church Funeral Dinner Fund in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening, June 16th at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
