Richard Lynn Sturdevant of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday morning, January 18, 2011, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 84 years.
Richard Lynn Sturdevant was born on September 8, 1926, in Newton, Kansas, to Harry and Nellie (Pummill) Sturdevant. He grew up in Newton graduating from Newton High School in 1944. Following graduation he entered the United States Navy serving during World War II. Following his discharge he returned to Kansas and attended Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in 1950. He then began working as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America. In the 1950's he began working as a real estate broker in Ponca City and later owned and operated Professional Real Estaters in Ponca City for over forty years. He married Nancy on August 20, 1992, and they settled in Ponca City. He retired from the real estate business in 2000 and in 2001 they moved to Blackwell to make their home. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Ponca City. He also held membership in the Rotary Club, American Legion and served as president of the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce and the Ponca City Realty Board. His loved God, his family and selling real estate.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sturdevant of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three daughters, Bobbye Sue of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, D'Anne of Houston, Texas, and Marcy of Ponca City, Oklahoma; five sons, Rick of San Diego, California, Todd of Newatta, Wisconsin, Shawn of Alexandria, Minnesota, Dana of Blackwell, and Adam of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a sister, Barbara Keller of Milwaukee, Oregon; a brother, Roger Sturdevant of St. Louis, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, Kevin, Clayton, Ritchie, Emily, Justin, Ashley, Sarah, Ellen, Cody, Jonny, Samantha, Kristoffer, Dov and Jasper; and four great grandchildren, Cavin, Sophia, Eddie and Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 24th in the First Assembly of God Church in Ponca City with the Rev. Micah Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be his sons, Rick, Todd, Shawn, Dana and Adam Sturdevant. Honorary casketbearers will be his grandsons, Kevin, Clayton, Ritchie, Justin, Jonny, Kristoffer, Dov, Cody and Jasper.
