Obituary

Richard Dale "Abe" Schauer of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at his residence at the age of 80 years.

Richard Dale "Abe" Schauer was born on November 22, 1932, in Greyhorse, Oklahoma, to Weldon E. and Alleen (Barnard) Schauer. He grew up in Kaw City, Oklahoma, attending Kaw City Public Schools and graduated from Kaw City High School in 1950. Following his education he entered the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he returned to Kaw City where he began his career at Bob Whitlock Chevrolet. On May 17, 1958, he married Catherine E. Horinek and they made their home in Newkirk for four years before moving to Blackwell where he began working at numerous auto parts stores in Blackwell. Following his retirement in 1998 he enjoyed woodworking and supervising his grandchildren and the neighborhood children. He also enjoyed caring for his lawn, reading, playing pool and drinking coffee with the guys at the coffee shop.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Schauer of Blackwell; a son, Gary Schauer of Blackwell; a daughter, Leasa Wright and husband Tom of Blackwell; three grandchildren, Damian, Jennifer, and Adam; three step grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Curtis Schauer; a sister, Earlene Rogers; and a grandson, Justin Johns.

A prayer service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larok O. Martin of St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiating.

Funeral mass is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 21st in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell with Rev. Larok O. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City, Oklahoma.

Casketbearers will be Jennifer Smith, Adam Hancock, Mathew Horinek, John Campbell, Travis Rowe and Mike Rowe. The nieces and nephews will serve as honorary Casketbearers.
