Obituary

Ray L. Glenny of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Sunday morning, October 12, 2008, at his home southwest of Blackwell at the age of 80 years.

Ray L. Glenny was born on April 7, 1928, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to William Thomas and Gladys Mae (Gummow) Glenny. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School. He then furthered his education by attending Oklahoma A. & M. in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for two years. While in school he participated in the National Sheep Sheering Contest and was nominated as a Oklahoma Jaycee Young Farmer Award. He married Phyllis Catherine Fey on September 19, 1947, in Blackwell and they settled in Blackwell where he operated a farming and livestock operation until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Chikaskia Masonic Lodge #109 in Blackwell. He also held membership in the Kay County Shriners and was instrumental in organizing the Blackwell Sales Inc. He enjoyed fishing, his blue heeler dogs and raising and riding mules, but the greatest joy was his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Glenny of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a son, Stan Glenny and wife Sherry of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a daughter, Kristy Vowel and husband Bernard of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a sister, Ruby Cormack of Cherokee, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Justin Glenny and wife Jill, Jefferson Glenny and wife Karen, Amanda Bradford, Sarah Ferretti and husband Renau, Brandon Glenny, Colby Glenny, Megan Martin, Dylan Vowel and wife Kelly, Bailie Vowel and Kyle Vowel; great grandchildren, Cody and Kenzie Glenny, Lizzie Vowel, Montana Glenny and Dominic and Jaydon Ferretti; and several nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeff Glenny; and a grandson, Garin Glenny.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2008, in the First Presbyterian Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Eric Dittman officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with Masonic Rites performed by the Chikaskia Lodge #109.

Honorary casketbearers will be Elmore Bathurst, Bob Cronin, Eddie Hembree, Rick Barnthouse, Gary Potter, Truman Hall, Bill Antle and Henry Krutchmar. Serving as casketbearers will be Justin Glenny, Dylan Vowel, Brandon Glenny, Colby Glenny, Bailie Vowel and Kyle Vowel.

Memorials have been established with the Blackwell F.F.A, First Presbyterian Church or the Oklahoma Blood Institute in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
