Rae Catherine Arterburn was born on November 22, 1914, in Cleora, Oklahoma, to Woot and Lillian (Devon) Preston. As a young girl she moved with her family to Webb City, Oklahoma, where she grew up and graduated from Webb High School in 1932. Following her education she married Fred Munroe in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled for a short time in Washunga before moving to Newkirk where she served her family as a homemaker. In 1942 they moved to Blackwell where she worked for the Turvey Packing Company and drove a Blackwell School bus for many years. She also worked at the Blackwell General Hospital for the Sisters of St. Joseph. In 1965 she married Gib Arterburn in Newkirk, and they made Blackwell their home where they engaged in a farming operation. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and the D.A.R. She was also a member of the Cherokee Tribe and the Otoe War Mothers where she served in local, state and national offices. She enjoyed farming and the outdoors.

She is survived by two daughters, Freddia Cloud of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Eva L. Jones of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two sons, George Munroe of Newkirk, Oklahoma, and Fred Munroe of Blackwell, Oklahoma; twenty grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; a son, Roy Munroe; three sisters, Eve King, Vivian Heinz and Mildred Preston; three brothers, Dib, Gene and Trout Preston; and a granddaughter, Katherine Waters.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 10th, at the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Jimmy Kenner of the Otoe Indian Baptist Church in Red Rock officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

T. J. Munroe, Leroy Bentham, Joseph Jones, James Jones, Fredrick Jones and George Munroe will serve as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Barney Cloud Jr., Bill Munroe, Leroy Enlow and Munroe Cloud.

A memorial has been established at the Otoe Indian Baptist Church in Red Rock, Oklahoma, in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
