Obituary

Phyllis Ann Payne of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday evening, August 5, 2013, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 70 years.

Phyllis Ann Payne was born on November 22, 1942, in Irvine, Kentucky, to Francis Jefferson and Alice Mae (Childers) Rogers. She grew up attending Irvine Elementary School before moving to Chicago, Illinois, where she continued her education through the eighth grade. She then returned to Winchester, Kentucky, where she completed her high school education in the Winchester Public Schools. Following her education she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, and worked in manufacturing for ten years. She then attended nursing school at Utah Technical School where she received her L.P.N. certification. Upon completion of her nurse's training, she began working for the Salt Lake City Medical Center where she met her husband, Albert D. Payne. They were married on August 4, 1973, in Elko, Nevada, and they settled in Rock Springs, Wyoming. In November of 1975 they moved to Blackwell to make their home and she worked as an L.P.N. for the Blackwell and Hillcrest Manor Nursing Homes for twenty years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Nardin United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading Harlequin romance novels, watching "Days of Our Lives," completing crossword and word search puzzles, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Ollie May and husband Buddy of Nardin, and Alice Payne and Jared McKee of Blackwell; a brother, Jeff Rogers of New Haven, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Wyatt and Harlie May of Nardin; two nieces, Laura Jordan and husband Stanley of Loveland, Ohio, and Angela Marshall and husband Kevin of Lexington, Kentucky; and caregiver, Rhonda Viveros of Blackwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a step-father, Andy Bush.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 8th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Jones of the Nardin United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary casketbearers will be Wyatt and Harlie May. Serving as casketbearers will be Jared McKee, Buddy May, Jim McKee, Stanley Jordan and Bruce McNamara.

Memorials in her honor have been established with the St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Image Hospice in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
