Obituary

Philip Max Keeley of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, died Sunday morning, December 7, 2008 at the age of 67 years.

Philip Max Keeley was born on April 14, 1941, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Max and Frances Keeley. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools where he was crowned state champion in wrestling his senior year graduating in 1959. He then furthered his education on a wrestling scholarship at the University of Oklahoma. While at O.U. he was a member of the Varsity Club and the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He graduated in 1964 with a bachelors degree in petroleum land management. He married Catherine Harsh on January 18th, 1963 in Ponca City and they settled in Oklahoma City. He worked for various petroleum companies including Texaco, Cotton Petroleum, Apache Petroleum and Nike. He then began working for Unit Corporation where he worked for over twenty years retiring in April 2004. His wife preceded him in death on March 21, 1990, and on September 11, 1993, he married Carrie Louise Martin in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and they made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Although successful in the oil and gas industry, Philip's first love was farming. He bought the Keeley homestead, which was founded in 1893, and operated the farm until his death. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Landman's Association, and the Petroleum Club where he served as a past director. He was also an avid John Deere collector.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie L. Keeley of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a son, Brian Keeley and wife Tami of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter, Leah Knox and husband Tim of Midland, Texas; a step-son, Samuel Martin of San Francisco, California; two step-daughters, Rebekah Martin of Houston, Texas, and Deborah Ives and husband Jason of Oregon; four grandchildren, Drew and Jackson Knox of Midland, Texas, and Jack and Catherine Keeley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-grandchild, Zechariah Ives of Oregon; two brothers, Tommy Keeley and wife Linda of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Stan Keeley and wife Priscilla of Norman, Oklahoma; a sister, Marguerite Farrill and husband Jerry of Bixby, Oklahoma; and aunts and uncles, Earl and June Christiansen of Nebraska, Roy and Florence Oxford of Enid, Oklahoma, and Claude Sodowsky of Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Services in Tulsa are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 12th at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Tom Harrison officiating. Blackwell services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Friday, December 12th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Foos of the First United Methodist Church in Nardin officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Tommy Keeley, Stanley Keeley, Heath Farrill, Carter Mathews, Jack Crissup, Bernard Steffas, Kenny Evans and George Becker.
