Peggy Lou Conaway of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday afternoon, December 28, 2010, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 80 years.
Peggy Lou Conaway was born on July 4, 1930, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Lloyd "Sandy" and Mayme Celeste (Peddicord) Richardson. She grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School where she performed as a twirler with the high school band. Following her education she helped her family operate the Snow White Grocery and Market. She married Les Conaway on July 17, 1949, in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home where she served her family as a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell and the Lamplighters Club. She enjoyed animals, especially horses, traveling, fishing, camping, painting and refinishing furniture. She loved to be with family during the holidays and other special occasions and enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Les Conaway of Blackwell; a daughter, Lea Ann Bechtel and husband Brad of Blackwell; two sons, Steve Conaway of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Craig Conaway and wife Denise of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a step-brother, James Robinson; six grandchildren, Crista Day of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jordan Conaway of Plano, Texas, Kyle Conaway and wife Susanna of Edmond, Oklahoma, Seth Conaway and wife Susan of Houston, Texas, Chad Bechtel and wife Ashley of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Blake Bechtel and wife Natalie of Edmond, Oklahoma; ten great grandchildren, Ryann and Chase Day of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Brynna and Ava Conaway of Edmond, Oklahoma, Elsa Conaway of Houston, Texas, Adyson and Haley Bechtel of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Kyler, Tegan and Ainsley Bechtel of Edmond, Oklahoma; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-father, Bill Robinson; a brother, Kenneth Richardson; a sister and brother-in-law, Rod and Wanda Miller; and a grandson, Brady Bechtel.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 31st in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church and Rev. Kristen L. Brown of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers will be Bernita Aldrich, Jean Larrabee, Glenda Leslie, Colene Mercer, Roleta Noblett, Sheila Roundtree and Pat Wheeler, all members of the Lamplighters Club. Serving as casketbearers will be grandchildren, Kyle Conaway, Seth Conaway, Crista Day, Jordan Conaway, Chad Bechtel and Blake Bechtel.
