Obituary

Pearl Artie Bumgardner of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday evening, September 30, 2008, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 96 years.

Pearl Artie Bumgardner was born on October 8, 1911, on a farm west of Blackwell, to William Porter and Artie Mecia (Romine) Bumgardner. She grew up on the farm attending Cooper School before transferring into Blackwell Public Schools graduating in 1929. Following her education she began farming with her brothers where they raised chickens, cattle and wheat. She also delivered eggs in the area, cleaned various homes and tended to her garden. She continued farming until she moved into Blackwell to make her home in the early 1980's. She was a member of the Independent Church of God 7th Day in Blackwell. She also held membership in the Alco Club and the Blackwell Saddle Club. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidery and displaying her various crafts at the Kay County Fair.

She is survived by her nephew, Walt Johns and wife Nancy D. of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a great nephew, Arthur Johns and wife Emily of Houston, Texas; two great nieces, Shannon Glass and husband Brent of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Justine Cranford and husband Sean of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four great great nephews, Jaron Johns of Blackwell, Oklahoma, James Liddell Jr., Dontae Liddell and Octavius Cranford Jr. all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and three great great nieces, Nichelle Johns of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Kelsey Liddell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Cadence Johns of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Opal Johns; and five brothers, Ralph, Lloyd, Willie, Walt and Mark Bumgardner.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 6th in the Blackwell Cemetery. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
