Paul August "Pat" Stegeman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday morning, July 13, 2010, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 92 years.
Paul August "Pat" Stegeman was born on February 12, 1918, in Leoville, Kansas, to William and Margaret (Campbell) Stegeman. Following his high school graduation he entered the United States Army on October 3, 1941, serving in the 100th Infantry, 3rd Army, during World War II in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945. He later served from January 1950 until January of 1951. He married Irene C. Dempewolf on September 14, 1944, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and he worked at various jobs including truck driver for Dempewolf Transfer and Storage from 1951 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also held a life membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Blackwell. He enjoyed yardwork, watching sporting activities and his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Stegeman of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a son, William Stegeman of Denver, Colorado; four daughters, Pat Cassidy of Norman, Oklahoma, Marilyn Miskimins of Sachse, Texas, Rose Ann McChristian of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Virginia Kowalsky of Blackwell, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children; three sisters, Mary Ann, Irene and Florence; and three brothers, Mike, Joe and John.
Prayer service is set for 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening, July 15th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 16th in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Larok O. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the Blackwell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Serving as casketbearers will be David Buesing, Mark Cordell, John Reedey, T. J. Greenfield, Lloyd Roberts and Justin McChristian. The grandchildren will serve as honorary casketbearers.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
