Ora Christine "Ki Ki" Patten of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, died Friday afternoon, March 9, 2012, at the age of 92 years.
Ora Christine "Ki Ki" Patten was born on March 13, 1919, on a ranch, where her father worked, at Little Chief, Oklahoma, near Pawhuska, to William Sylvester and Audie Belle (Woods) Hudson. As a young girl she moved with her family to the Three Sands area where she attended elementary school. They later moved to the Hubbard Oil Field west of Blackwell and she completed elementary school at the Union Rural School District #6 before graduating from Blackwell High School in 1937. She lived through the Great Depression which taught her an uncompromised work ethic. Ora worked as a bookkeeper for the Texaco Oil Company and later married Harold Patten of Blackwell on June 4, 1939, in Perry, Oklahoma. The couple moved to a farm in the Retta Community a mile from where Harold was born and his grandmother had homesteaded in the land run. While living on the farm she assisted her husband with the family farming operation where she cooked many meals, especially her famous pies, for the various combine crews. After fifty-six years on the farm ill health forced them to move to be near their daughter and her husband. She worked as caregiver for many years to her mother, mother-in-law, grandmother-in-law and her sister, Helen. Her husband preceded her in death in 1991 and she continued to make Tonkawa her home. She enjoyed the Kay County Fair and worked many years in the entry department for the various baked goods. She was a member of the Retta Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School superintendent for many years. She later attended the Nardin Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She served on the election board, always having an interest in politics and served as one of the first volunteers for the Blackwell Regional Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter, Gay Douglas and husband Eddie of Tonkawa; two grandchildren, Lisa Edwards of Tonkawa and Mike Edwards of Ponca City; three great grandchildren, Christopher Rosetti, Nicholas Rosetti and Alexander Welch all of Tonkawa; and extended family, Jeanne (Douglas) Ackerson and husband Virgil of Tonkawa, Pam (Douglas) Callison and husband John of Claremore, Cindy (Douglas) Zachary of Whitesboro, Texas, and Kathy (Douglas) White and husband Ron of Ponca City.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Hudson; and a grandson, Paul Luther Edwards Jr.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Phillip Erwin of the First Presbyterian Church in Tonkawa officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
