Opal Elnora Ray of Braman, Oklahoma died Saturday morning, January 1, 2010 in the Ponca City Nursing Center in Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 92.
Opal Elnora Ray was born on August 11, 1918, in her family home southwest of Braman, Oklahoma to Clarence and Elnora (Anderson) Sodowsky. Opal grew up in Braman and attended and graduated Braman Public Schools in 1936. She married Lester Ray on August 11, 1937 at the Newkirk First Christian Church and settled in Blackwell. In 1947 they moved to a farm southwest of Braman. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1999. Opal was employed at the Braman Public Schools and the Oklahoman Restaurant. One of her great joys was attending sports and special events of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a life long member of the First Christian Church of Braman where she held numerous offices.
She is survived by two sons, Leroy Ray and wife Sharon of Braman, Oklahoma, and Larry Ray and his wife Karen of Braman, Oklahoma; a daughter, Louise Alexander and her husband Walter of Kaw City, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, Keith and Diane Ray of Braman, Oklahoma, Randy and Denetta Ray of Enid, Oklahoma, Don and Joanna Ray of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Bob and Judy Ray of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Shari and Ed Dalal of Wichita, Kansas, Mike Sindelar of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Janet and Roger Myers of Frisco, Texas, Sandra Ray of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Jolene Cooke of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Todd and Debbie Ray of South Haven, Kansas, Karmen and Ronnie Holmes of Killeen, Texas and Jeff and Jennifer Ray of Blackwell, Oklahoma; great grandchildren; Russell and Brittany Ray, Shelby and Hattie Ray, Brad and Amanda Lyons, Landon Ray, Trevin Ray, Kylie and Kelsey Ray, Jordan, Ashtyn and Arynn Dalal, Austin Sindelar, Derek, Megan, Becca, Abbey, Erin and Hannah Myers, Trent Roach, Haley Pratt, Joseph Cooke, Hunter, Parker and Kendall Ray, Blake Baylee Holmes, Josh and Michelle Williams, Brylee, Brooklyn and Bryson Ray, and Jake and Odessa Smith; and great great grandchildren; Jameson Lyons, and Gracie and Garrett Williams.
She was also preceded on death by her parents and a sister, Ruby Cross.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011, in the Braman United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Crenshaw of the First Christian Church of Braman officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be grandsons, Keith Ray, Randy Ray, Don Ray, Bob Ray, Jeff Ray, Mike Sindelar and Todd Ray.
A memorial has been established with the Braman Cemetery in care of Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
