Norman Lavene Silcox of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, October 6, 2011, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 79 years.
Norman Lavene Silcox was born on February 18, 1932, in Colcord, Oklahoma, to Bruce and Leota (Cochran) Silcox. He grew up in Colcord attending Colcord Public Schools. He married Edith Crittenden on March 7, 1953, in Bentonville, Arkansas, and they settled in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where he worked in the poultry plants. In 1954 they moved to Blackwell where he began working for the Hazel-Atlas Glass Plant. Following the 1955 tornado he began working for the Acme Foundry and the Blackwell Zinc Company. Following the plant closing he worked for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals and listening to bluegrass music, playing checkers, and watching various westerns shows, including the Waltons. He also enjoyed traveling back to Arkansas and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Silcox of Blackwell; three daughters, Sandra Kay Cobb and husband James of Wellington, Kansas, Norma Pemberton of Blackwell, and Reba Newton and husband Mitchell of Blackwell; a son, Marlon Silcox of Blackwell; two brothers, Sherman Silcox of Watts, Oklahoma, and Roger Silcox of Kansas, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, three brothers, Jim, Ralph and Beryle Silcox; two sisters, Wanda Christie and Rita Carr; and a granddaughter, Tawneca Cobb.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 10th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with James W. Roberts of Blackwell, officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Brandon Silcox, Tenneil Cobb, Gary Wickham, Chad Koehler, Justin Koehler and Joshua Koehler. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Bill Ellis, Charley Kirby, David Kirby, Mitchell Newton and James Cobb.
