Norman D. Buxton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2012, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 80 years.
Norman D. Buxton was born on February 26, 1931, in Rosston, Oklahoma, to Millard Forrest and Olive Fern (Demuth) Buxton. He grew up in western Oklahoma before moving with his family to a farm west of Deer Creek where he graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1950. Following his education he assisted with the family farming operation north of Nardin. He married Bonnie Lou Bray on February 6, 1954, in Blackwell and they settled on a farm north of Nardin for a short time before moving into Blackwell to make their home. He worked as an auto mechanic for the Ford dealership for several years. He also worked at the Blackwell Zinc Company. In the mid 1970's he attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa where he received an associate's degree and earned his pilot's license. He later worked for Oklahoma Investment Castings Corporation in Blackwell until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ and served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed flying airplanes, riding motorcycles, serving as the neighborhood mechanic and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Buxton of Blackwell; two daughters, Vronda Ellis and husband LeRoy of Blackwell and Vickie Buxton of Aurora, Colorado; a son, Darwin Buxton of Blackwell and daughters-in-law, Mary Buxton, Darsey Buxton and Genna Wooten; grandchildren, Brian Ellis of Ponca City, Melissa Ellis of Newton, Kansas, Clinton Ellis of Newton, Kansas, Valerie Garver of Newton, Kansas, Shawnia Atchley of Blackwell, Christopher Buxton of Ft. Riley, Kansas, Norman Buxton II of Chandler, Arizona, Ashley Hernandez of Ponca City, Wesley Buxton of Blackwell, Breanna Buxton of Blackwell, Madilyn Orr of Blackwell, Stephanie Odom of Denver, Colorado, Melissa Tholen of Wichita, Kansas, Marcus Vought of Pennsylvania, MiKaela Vought of Colorado, and Hannah Sheaffer of Colorado; a brother, Marvin "Gene" Buxton and wife Eleanor of Deer Creek; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Buxton of Oklahoma City; fifteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Herschel Buxton.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 13th in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe of the Blackwell Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Darwin Buxton, Josh Atchley, Brian Ellis, Christopher Buxton, Norman Buxton II and Wesley Buxton. Jack Crews will serve as an honorary casketbearer.
