Neva Pearl Rourk of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 80 years.
Neva Pearl Rourk was born on May 16, 1932, in Glencoe, Oklahoma, to Thomas Jefferson and Viola Pearl (Ballenger) Ellington. She grew up in the Glencoe area attending West Point Elementary School, Brockman School and graduated from Quay High School in 1950. She married Raymond Donald Rourk on July 21, 1950, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. In 1964 she began working as a sales clerk for Dryer's Shoe Store and later served as manager for Williams Shoe Store. She later purchased the business and changed the name to Neva's Shoe Store which she operated until 1987. She then began working for the C. R. Anthony Department Store before working at the Blackwell Wal-Mart until her retirement in the late 1990's. Following retirement she worked in home health care as a caregiver. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, playing cards and family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Eastman of Blackwell; two sons, Don Rourk and wife Barb of Emporia, Kansas, and Faron Rourk and wife Cynthia of Blackwell; a sister, Erma McBrain of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Steven Eastman of Blackwell, Krisha Young of Blackwell, Melissa Rosen and husband Marc of Wichita, Kansas, Eric Rourk and wife Karla of Haysville, Kansas, Brandon Rourk of Blackwell and Shane Rourk of Blackwell; and five great grandchildren, Joshua and Brookelyn Young of Blackwell, Alex and Nathan Rosen of Wichita, Kansas, and Quinn Rourk of Haysville, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 9, 1986; her parents; three sisters, Lela, Thelma and Beulah; four brothers, William, Kenneth, Roy and Virgil; and two great grandsons, Gavin and Grant Rourk.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 4th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Matt Smith and Rev. Mark Meador officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers will be Junior Dixon, Ray Bowling and Roger Clark. Serving as casketbearers will be Steven Eastman, Eric Rourk, Shane Rourk, Gordon Goodger, Frank Simmons and Reggie Blackwell.
