Obituary

Nedra M. Porter of Blackwell went to heaven on Saturday Sept. 21, 2013 at 9 o'clock in the morning at Medicalodges in Arkansas City, Kansas. Nedra had been a resident at Medicalodges since suffering a stroke on Jan. 30 2012. Althought the last year and nine months were very difficult for her due to paralysis from her stroke, she never complained. She accepted her fate as she lived her life with courage and grace. She was born to Caroline and Harry Ludwigsen on October 29, 1927 in Blackwell Oklahoma. She graduated from High School in 1945. Soon after graduation, on November 25, 1945, she married Donald Porter in Arkansas City, Kansas and were married for 57 years. They had one child Patty. They made their home in Blackwell. During the Korean War her husband joined the Navy and they moved for a short time to Olathe, Kansas. Following the war they returned to Blackwell. They also lived in Colorado for 6 months while her husband was training for a job at Electron. Nedra held several jobs during her life including secretary at the Massey Ferguson, helping her husband during harvest, and as a bookkeeper at Powell Plumbing for 20 years. She loved doing crafts and cooking. Her specialty was fried chicken, pecan pie and her daughter's favorite, german chocolate cake made from scratch. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her 3 grandchildren. She cherished her grandchildren and loved going to all their sporting events, including baseball, tennis, basketball, and cheerleading. When her grandchildren married and had children of their own, she was especially proud to be called GiGi, the name her great grandchildren lovingly called her. In her later years she traveled with her family to Cabo San Lucas, Seattle Washington, a Mexican cruise, and to Canada. She loved going to family functions and staying with her grand dogs when her daughter was on vacation. She was so loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Nedra remained very active after her retirement in 1992. She loved her Sunday School class the Harmony Class. She especially enjoyed her Monday and Thursday morning coffee group. She also spent hours visiting with her dear friend Betty Richardson a friend since high school.

She is survived by her daughter Patty Holmes and husband Fred of Ponca City, Grandchildren Dr. Jeff Keeney and wife Rachel, children Caden, Kenzie, and Kayleigh of Skiatook; Dr. Chad Keeney and wife Kandy, children Coltan, Kyla, and Jaidyn of Tulsa; Natalie Chisholm and husband Justin, children Rylee and Emily of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents, a sister Elvira, and brother, Willard.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at the First Christian Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Jeff Koch officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Keeney, Chad Keeney, Justin Chisholm, Coltan Armstrong. Honorary bearers will be the Harmony Class.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231.
