Obituary

Myrle Ann "Grandma" Knapp of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Integris Blackwell Regional Hospital in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 93 years.

Myrle Ann "Grandma" Knapp was born on March 21, 1917, on the family farm in Beaver County, Nebraska, to Charles Thomas and Veva Blanche (Frost) Keith. She grew up on the family farm attending elementary school at Frog Pond Rural School where she rode her horse to school everyday. She later attended Beaver City High School and graduated in 1936. After her education she married Lyman Elmer Knapp on July 19, 1936, in Beaver City, Nebraska, and they settled on a farm near Autwine until 1952 when they moved to a farm southeast of Blackwell. Her husband preceded her in death on June 13, 1998, and she continued the farming operation. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Daughters of Unions Veterans, Prairie View Home Extension Club and Old-Time Settlers. She was a founding member of the Blackwell Historical Society and Tonkawa Historical Society. She also held membership in the Oklahoma Steam Thrasher Society and Cherokee Strip Club. She enjoyed caring for house plants and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Urban of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Carolyn Chambers and husband Gary of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a niece, who they raised as a daughter, April Keith of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Mary Keith of Norton, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Jynda Jenkins and husband Gary of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Christa Starr and husband Bill of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Frank Urban of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Monta Pollock and husband Dan of Crystal City, Missouri, Annell Boland and husband Brock of Columbia, Missouri, Kimberly Chambers of Columbia, Missouri, and Lyman Keith Urban of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and seventeen great grandchildren, Robert Sherwood, Mason Knapp Sherwood, Justin Jenkins, Case Jenkins, Christopher Urban, Shyla Urban, Isac Urban, Cody Pollock, Peyton Pollock, Brodie Pollock, Brett Pollock, Trenton Urban, Melissa Randall Urban, Frederick Boland, Finneas Boland, Franklin Boland and Carolyn Faye Boland.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Keith Elmer Knapp; and two brothers, Joseph Keith and Albert "Bub" Keith.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 19th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Justin Jenkins, Case Jenkins, Christopher Urban, Shyla Urban, Cody Pollock, Peyton Pollock and Trenton Urban. Honorary casketbearers will be Chady Atteberry, Brian Kugel, Wayne Allen, Larry Cannon, J. C. Fath and Mary Lou Fath.

Memorials have been established in her honor with the March of Dimes and the First Christian Church Youth Group in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, November 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
