Myra Dean Hambleton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday afternoon, April 1, 2008, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 76 years.
Myra Dean Hambleton was born on February 23, 1932, in Westcliffe, Colorado, to Charles William and Flossie Emmeline (Michaels) Moses. As an infant she moved with her family to Blackwell where she grew up and attended Blackwell Public Schools. Following her education she married Ray Riley on December 8, 1948, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. Her husband and daughter, Sherry, preceded her in death as a result of the tornado on May 25, 1955. Following their death she attended cosmetology school in Ponca City. In 1957 she married Vernon Hambleton in Minnesota and they settled in Minnesota. In 1971 they moved to Fulton, Arkansas, to make their home. Following her husband's death in 1997 she returned to Blackwell in 2000. She was a member of the First Church of God in Blackwell and served as a volunteer at the Top of Oklahoma Historical Museum. She also held membership in the Wheatheart Nutrition Center and was currently writing a weekly article about their activities for the newspaper. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing cards.
She is survived by her daughter, Rita Rae Peterson and husband David of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a sister, Peggy Yeater and husband Robert of Blackwell; two brothers, Richard Moses and wife Fredia of Blackwell and James Moses and wife Nancy of Lawton, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Sherry Feathers and husband Shane of Ponca City, James Peterson and wife Trisha of Ponca City, and Brian Peterson and wife Lea of Shawboro, North Carolina; and three great grandchildren, Kailey Feathers of Ponca City, Jamie Peterson of Ponca City, and Dustin Peterson of Shawboro, North Carolina.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Charles Moses.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 4th, in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Doyle Fortney of the First Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
