Mozelle Elizabeth Johns of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday evening, November 14, 2011, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 90 years.
Mozelle Elizabeth Johns was born on January 17, 1921, in Bigelow, Arkansas, to William Matthew and Fannie Marie (Kern) Jernigan. As a young girl she moved with her family to Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools. Following her education she worked for the Raffety family. She married David Harvey Johns on January 3, 1942, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. Later in life she worked for the Blackwell Floral Company and Wal-Mart in the garden section. Her husband of sixty-two years preceded her in death on April 5, 2004, and she continued to make Blackwell
her home She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Blackwell and taught Sunday School for over sixty years. She also held membership in the Alco Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn S. McCuan and husband Jim of Edmond, Oklahoma; three sons, David A. Johns and wife Karen of Edmond, Oklahoma, Dennis D. Johns and wife Darlene of Braman, Oklahoma, and Dwaine A. Johns and wife Lynn of Blackwell; two
sisters and one brother; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Kenneth, Harold, Robert (Bob) and Danny Joe Jernigan and one sister, Hazel Lowrey.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 18th in the First Church of the Nazerene in Blackwell with the Rev. Dorothy Whipp of Edmond, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Darrin Johns, Derry Johns, Scott Johns, Jeffrey Johns, DeeJay Johns and J. T. Courtney. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Kenneth Jernigan, Bill Wente, A. C. Pratt, Verlin Pratt, Dayle McGaha and Jack Clinkingbeard.
