Obituary

W. Morgan Norris of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 69 years.

W. Morgan Norris was born on March 25, 1939, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Wayne and Ruby (Waldrip) Norris. He grew up and attended schools in New Mexico graduating from Lovington High School in Lovington, New Mexico. He furthered his education by attending New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and College of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico. He married Sally Mitchell on January 5, 1963, in Hobbs, New Mexico. He worked as an alfalfa farmer in New Mexico before moving to Blackwell to work with area farmers in starting an alfalfa cooperative. He later worked at Wise Auto Parts before working with several local carpenters and later beginning his own carpentry business. Following his retirement from the carpentry business he drove an 18-wheeler cross country for several years. He later began his carving business which took him across the United States to various shows and exhibits where he displayed and sold his work. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He enjoyed fishing and watching his grandchildren in their various activities.

He is survived by his wife Sally Norris of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sons, Bill Norris and wife Betty of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Newt Norris and his wife Karen of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two brothers, R. W. Norris and wife Patsy of Hobbs, New Mexico, and John Norris and wife Jeannie of Taos, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Katie Williams and husband Cody of Enid, Oklahoma, Kira Norris of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Kori Norris of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Christian Hernandez of Abilene, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant sisters.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 6th in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with Gary Boyer and Michael Moers officiating. Burial will be on Saturday, February 7th in the Teague Cemetery in Knowles, New Mexico.

A memorial has been established for the First Baptist Church Youth Group in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
