Obituary

Iva Mildred Bringham of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 84 years.

Iva Mildred Bringham was born on March 11, 1928, in Blackwell to H. O. and Bessie M. (Haynes) McKern. She grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated in 1946. She furthered her education by attending Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, where she attained a bachelor of science degree and a masters degree in education. She began her teaching career in Garden City, Kansas, teaching for three years before moving to Wellington, Kansas, where she continued teaching for two more years. In 1956 she began a nineteen year teaching career in the Blackwell Public Schools and retired in 1975. Following her retirement she moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, and worked for the Oklahoma Christian Home until 1990. She married Marion Lyle Bringham on June 4, 1983, in Edmond. In 1995 they returned to Blackwell to make their home. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2003, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and A. A. U. W. She also held a life membership in the Oklahoma Education Association and the National Education Association and was a member of the Kay County Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by a niece, Carol Naylor and husband Tom of Summerfield, North Carolina; a great nephew, Shane Naylor and wife Patricia of Greensboro, North Carolina; two great nieces, Tana Mills and husband Vance of Ararat, North Carolina, and Teisha Scribner and husband David of Jenks, Oklahoma; great great nieces and nephews, Taylor Mills, Wyatt, Paydon and Emma Scribner, and Drake and Grant Naylor; a daughter, Susan Hill and husband Rev. Randy of Smith Center, Kansas; a son, Roger Bringham and wife Sheila of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandsons, David Bringham of Ponca City, Tracey Crist of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Master Sgt. Gene Warden and wife Leah of Edmond, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Amber Maier and husband Steven of Alva, Oklahoma, and LaDina Hicks of Midwest City, Oklahoma; and great grandchildren, Michael, Benjamin and Ashley Warden and Leah, Jenna and Kayla Maier.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Merl McKern.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m, Saturday, August 18th in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Pam Cottrill and Charles Hattendorf officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Steven Maier, Walt Bringham, Jack Bringham, Dan Bringham, Rev. Randy Hill and Clinton White.
