Dorothy Merlene Fultz, 86, of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away Friday morning, June 6, 2008, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital.
Dorothy Merlene Fultz was born on October 27, 1921, in Blackwell to Lewis Arthur Fitch and Anna Elizabeth Barnett Fitch. She grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools graduating in 1939.
She married Leroy Earl Fultz on July 5, 1941. During World War II, while Leroy was serving overseas, Merlene worked at the Blackwell Glass Plant. Following Leroy's discharge from the Army they moved to a farm south of Braman, living there until 1948 when they moved to a farm west of Braman where they lived until 1993. They then moved to Blackwell and in 1995 they moved to Claremore, Oklahoma, where Leroy was a patient at the Claremore Veterans Center. Following his death in 1998, she returned to Blackwell to make her home.
Merlene loved being a mother and grandmother, spending time with her grandkids, and making stuffed animals and dolls for them. She also enjoyed making crafts, sewing, baking, working in the yard and being a farm wife. She was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Gary and Karen Fultz of Blackwell, and Earl and Denise Fultz of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; six daughters, Karen and Chuck Hill of Arkansas City, Kansas, Jo and Ivan Rainbolt of Claremore, Oklahoma, Susie and Phil McDrummond of Haskell, Oklahoma, Sherry and Jack Henderson of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Nancy and Gary Leslie of Blackwell, and Lorena and Allan Heiden of Choctaw, Oklahoma; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Francis McMillioan of Blackwell and Margie Nodine of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Smith of Winfield, Kansas, and Wanda Pingry of Arkansas City, Kansas. Her caregiver was Donna Lee of Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Douglas Fultz; three brothers, Glen Fitch, Adrian Fitch and Arthur Fitch; and two sisters, Anna Lou Fitch and Gladys Fitch.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 10th, in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers are her grandsons, Bronze Hill, Curtis Rainbolt, Jason Rainbolt, Ryan Henderson, Jordan Fultz, Trenton Leslie and Adam Heiden. Honorary Casketbearers are Bill Shoffner, Charles Storck, Robert Bergman and Marvin Gingerich.
A memiral has been established at the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Merlene Fultz in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
